TODAY: STATE, LOCAL LEADERS TO JOIN COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER WORKERS AND ADVOCATES FOR FACEBOOK LIVE ON COVID-19, CALL FOR ADDITIONAL RESOURCES

Hartford, Conn — State and local officials will join Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) advocates and staff for a Facebook Live Town Hall today at noon to raise concerns over a lack in adequate resources available to providers to prepare for and handle the COVID-19 outbreak. As health centers expect an increased strain on services in the coming weeks with the number of cases continuing to climb and spread across the state, lawmakers and advocates are seeking relief for FQHCs at both the federal and state level.

“These Health Centers provide vital supports to low income residents in the Hartford area,” State Representative Brandon McGee (D-Windsor, Hartford) said. “At a time when our health care system will be tested with the COVID-19 pandemic, we need to ensure that these providers are prepared to meet the needs of our communities.”

“Today, we need to be vigilant and protect our most valuable resource: ‘the people,'” State Representative Geraldo Reyes Jr. (D-Waterbury) said. “Please take these health precautions seriously!”

“FQHC’s such as Charter Oak Health Center are on the front lines in our respective communities,” Charter Oak Health Center (COHC) President & CEO Nichelle Mullins said. “Collaborating with our local and state officials and hospitals to respond to the needs of our community is essential.  Likewise, having the necessary resources to combat the COVID-19 outbreak will help us to serve the medically underserved in a more effective manner. “
